Air Quality Specialists
Air Impact Assessments
An Air Quality Impact Assessment is required as a specialist report for Environmental Authorisation. It also forms part of the AEL applications for new and existing industries. An Air Impact Assessment may also be required where an industry exceeds its emission limits and is issued with a non-compliance notice. The impact assessment provides valuable information to Industry in understanding the impact of its proposed operations on the environment as well as the efficacy of proposed abatement technology. Regulatory authorities use the report to enhance decision-making to ensure that a proposed industry will not harm the environment or create an exceedance in ambient air quality.
Ambient Air Quality Station management
The engineering team advises on the placement of ambient air quality monitoring stations and the project manages, installation of the stations to your specifications and in accordance with current legislation.
Our station maintenance team has several years’ experience in monitoring an ambient station network and providing maintenance and related services.
Data analysts provide data validation and reporting services in-house.
Station calibration is provided through collaboration with a leading industry partner.
Air Quality Management plans
Developing a practical and functional air quality management plan for municipalities and regions is a regulatory requirement. This enables authorities to develop policies, plan projects, and legislation that safeguards ambient air conditions for the general population. Our company assists local authorities to develop plans and review their efficacy every four years.
Atmospheric Emissions Licence Applications, Audits and Reporting
Our team has years of experience in the compilation of atmospheric emissions licenses and the submission on SAAELIP (South African Atmospheric Emission Licensing and Inventory Portal). This includes a technical review of the proposed operations through a site visit for the existing industry.
The Public Participation Process is managed in-house.
All license holders are required to submit an annual report to the licensing authority detailing the results of annual emission surveys (stack testing, fence-line monitoring), complaints received from the authorities or public, audit reports, and details of any incidents during an annual period. AEL compliance audits are recommended annually and should be conducted by an independent consultant, and we can provide a full spectrum of services in this regard.
Annual Emission surveys
Our dedicated stack emission monitoring team provides services in the Eastern Cape and Garden Route areas. We specialize in the measurements of the following pollutants:
- Particulate matter
- Heavy metals
- Dioxins and Furans
- Halides and Halogens (HCI, CI, HF)
- Total and Volatile organic compounds
- Poly Aromatic Hydrocarbons
We provide monthly and periodic fence-line monitoring services for dust fall-out, SO2, VOC, and H2S.
Our team conducts occupational hygiene surveys in association with industry specialists.
Chemtech Laboratories completes all laboratory analyses of samples.
ALS Global prepares the reagents and performs analyses of all our dioxins and furans samples.
National Ambient Emission Inventory System (NAEIS)
Our team compiles a site-specific emissions inventory in line with DFFE requirements. Company-specific NAEIS profiles are developed or amended to match the site-wide emissions. Uploading of data onto the NAEIS platform is done by our in-house team.
Greenhouse Gas (GHG)
All companies meeting the requirements for greenhouse gas reporting are required to declare their emissions annually. Our specialist team is available to verify whether your company meets the reporting criteria, create the required reporting profile, conduct an assessment, compile an inventory, and complete the required reporting.
We partner with a niche consultancy specializing in Carbon Tax to assist our clients with meeting their taxation obligation.
